The different types of exfoliation

Young skin exfoliates on its own. However, over time, it needs a little help. Exfoliation (or scrub) serves not only to rid the skin of dead cells, but also to slow down the aging of the skin. It stimulates the production of new cells while activating blood circulation which stimulates the skin to regenerate. In addition, following exfoliation, the skin absorbs more of the cosmetic products applied to it. It is strongly suggested to apply a moisturizing cream after exfoliating to regain comfort and above all to properly nourish the skin.

After exfoliation, the skin is softer and the complexion is clearer. However, be wary of exfoliants made from fruit stones such as apricots. The granules, being misshapen (crumbs of crushed kernels), remove dead cells but they also irritate the skin and therefore cause hypersensitivity.

How often should we exfoliate our skin?

Once or twice a week is enough for the face and neck.

With or without granules for the face?

For the face, there are exfoliants with or without granules. If your skin has redness and rosacea, I strongly recommend an enzymatic exfoliant (granule-free). This type of product is much less known but is just as effective and will prevent the appearance of new burst capillary vessels on sensitive skin. Very oily skin should also opt for an enzymatic exfoliant. The granules activate the skin's microcirculation, which could cause an acceleration in the production of sebum (oil that our skin secretes). Result: even oilier skin.

In short, exfoliants with granules should only be used on normal to dry skin showing no signs of sensitivity or rosacea.

How to choose your granule exfoliant?

You will find dozens of types on the market. If your skin can afford a granular exfoliant, look for the words “sphere or ball” on the product. If the granule rolls on the skin, you will avoid the often irritating side of this type of product. A hint: if your skin heats up and you're as red as a tomato after rinsing off your exfoliant, it's a sign that you have a product made from crushed fruit stones and that you are creating a whole other problem on your skin. skin in the medium to long term. Opt for spheres and balls.
